Synopsis
XEDIT for New Users teaches the basic XEDIT commands to create files, locate data and make changes within files.  It also explains how to edit more than one file at a time, insert one file into another and change the screen layout.

Using XEDIT to Edit Files
Introduces XEDIT.  Discusses how to begin an editing session, create a file and exit an editing session.
 
Introduction to XEDIT
Working in the CMS environment.  How CMS files are identified.
The XEDIT Screen
How to begin an editing session.  Areas of the XEDIT screen.
Creating a File
How to enter data in INPUT mode.  QUERY TABS and SET TABS commands.  How to exit an editing session: FILE, QUIT and QQUIT commands.


Moving Through a File
Discusses the commands used to scroll through a file and locate data.
 
Scrolling
XEDIT scrolling commands: UP, DOWN, FORWARD, BACKWARD, TOP, BOTTOM.
Locating Data
Use of the LOCATE and CLOCATE commands to locate targeted data lines or columns.  Use of PF keys to display and execute previously entered commands.


Changing a File
Presents different ways to make changes to a file, including prefix commands and the CHANGE command.  Also discusses ways to protect the changes.
 
Prefix Commands
How to use prefix commands to add, delete and duplicate lines of data.
More Prefix Commands
Using prefix commands to move and copy data, to change the current line, to exclude lines from display, and to shift data left or right.
Changing Characters
Using the CHANGE command to change characters, both globally and selectively.  Inserting characters with the Insert Mode key, the CINSERT command and the CAPPEND command.  Using the PF11 key to split and join lines.
