Advanced Grammar covers some of the elements of advanced grammar.  Emphasis is given to the use of pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, special punctuation, and modifiers.

Possessive pronoun usage.  Difference between possessive pronouns and contractions.
Reflexive and Demonstrative Pronouns
Correct use of reflexive and demonstrative pronouns.  Errors in reflexive and demonstrative pronouns.


Adjectives and Adverbs
Examines adjectives and adverbs.  Discusses what they are and how to use them to express comparisons.
 
Proper Use
Adjective usage to modify nouns and pronouns.  Adverb usage to modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs.
Comparing Modifiers
Use of adjectives and adverbs to express comparisons.


Special Punctuation Marks
Presents usage rules for the colon, the semicolon, the dash, the hyphen and parentheses.
 
Colon
Rules governing the use of the colon.  Use of a colon to introduce a list, a long quotation or an explanation.
Semicolon
Separation of two independent clauses with a semicolon.  Separation of items in a list that already contains commas.  Errors in semicolon use.
Dash, Hyphen and Parentheses
Use of a dash to mark an emphatic pause.  Hyphen usage to divide words or join compound modifiers.  Insertion of parentheses to set off incidental information.


Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers
Examines misplaced and dangling modifiers.  Offers various methods to avoid or correct these errors.

Identification of misplaced modifiers.  Correction of misplaced modifiers.

Recognition of dangling modifiers.  Correction of dangling modifiers.
