4.1 Prehistoric Times

In the misty remoteness of ten thousand centuries ago, a scantily-clad caveman, scavenging for food, became the first human to set eyes upon the precious metal. Attracted by the bright glint of placer gold in an ancient stream bed, the Stone Age prospector noted its unusual weight, admired its fine and lustrous color, and, possibly, polished it against his rough animal-skin garments
