Mining Support Systems

In underground mines, the walls and the roof or back of stopes are not usually self-supporting.

Below shallow depths, the pressure of the rock above may cause surrounding rock to move into excavations. Some kind of support for the surrounding rock is often required for underground excavations which are to be kept open to allow mining operations to continue.
