Two types of drill patterns or hole sequence and spacing are used for explosives. One is the angle-cut type. It is usually difficult to break ground with this type of round any deeper than the narrowest dimension of the opening.

The other type is called the burn cut where 2 or more parallal holes are drilled together and one of them is left unloaded so that the loaded hole can break toward the unloaded hole.
