INTERVIEW WITH FIN ALLMAN OF

By Scott Stater

First off Id like to say Blood Duster is one of my favorite bands to sit back to and relish. Blood Duster is a unique thrust of pure heavy grooving talent that is splattered wall to wall on there Relapse release Yeest. I just got into Blood Duster about 2 months ago (July 1996) after listening to Theatre of the Macabre and I thought it totally kicked ass, so I decided to buy Yeest. I have been writing Fin Allman (Leadcockbladeguitarmagedon) and I asked him if I could have an interview and here we are.

How did Relapse Records find out about you guys and when did you get signed?

Someone ordered FISTING (Fisting The Dead) and Bill Yerkiewicz heard it and said YOU'RE SIGNED.

You include some rap verses in Yeest how long have you guys been into rap and what are your preferred Rap groups?

I love NWA and Ice Cube and Eazy-E but that is about as far as I go. I also like Spike Lee. We don’t have much to do with rap anymore. Mainly swamp music and redneck stuff.

I’m sure records started to sell when you signed with Relapse, do you guys see any increase in popularity in Australia or in any part of the world?

Not Australia as we are really big here already. But fan mail has increased from the US.

Do you think it is harder for an Australian or any band that is not in the USA to get recognized from major record labels like Relapse? ( I would never know of any band in another country if it were not for major label)

YEP! You have to have something special about you to get recognized, but that is about right for anywhere in the world. The reason for less music out of OZ is that there is less people here. New York has more people in it than the whole of Australia.

Compare and contrast how the band was 2 years ago until now?

Different band. Attitudes, profesionality, musical ability, music taste. We are not the same band in anyway. But it will always be Blood Duster.

What does Matt Rizzo bring to Blood Duster that your former drummer did not? (I find that the beats on Yeest are more creative and more varied then on Fisting the Dead but that’s my opinion.)

Shane had a 'COULD NOT BE FUCKED DOING THOSE ROLLS' attitude. Matt is the drums 100 percent

Name your favorite band in each category I put down. (If you don’t have one leave it blank)

  1. Death Metal - Carcass (Symphonies)
  2. Metal - Black Sabbath
  3. Country - Charlie Daniels Band.
  4. Punk - ggallen (Makes sex pistols look like abba)
  5. Other - Allman Brothers Band

I’m sure you guys get criticized for your art work on both Fisting the Dead and Yeest. Is there any country or any place that will not sell your record because of the graphic nature of your albums? (Something like the Cannibal Corpse albums where they have censored versions of there albums).

No but Fisting had an alternate cover which you tear off, just black with advisory all over it.

I feel a lot of bands are turning mainstream to get noticed, what are your thoughts about bands that are turning mainstream?

I don’t care about that stuff. Do what you like. If a band is good I'll listen to them. I like 16HORSEPOWER at the moment.

When is the new album going to come out and what is the name of it?

Next year sometime and who knows what it will be called.

What Death metal band(s) would you like to tour with?

CATHEDRAL. And Brutal Truth as we toured with them in Australia and we like them a lot.

In conclusion do you feel that Death Metal is declining in any way? (Because) In the U.S. Alternative, Punk, and Ska are taking over the music industry, and its hard for someone like me to get a good Death Metal record without going around the world to find it. I could not find Blood Duster Yeest in any store so I ordered Yeest straight from Relapse Records and that really pissed me off.

No one here listens to that shit and it will die out soon anyway. Like those huge rapper pants all the wiggers wear. They died out. Hippies died out. But Sabbath did not. LONG LIVE METAL.

Thanks for the interview Fin I can’t wait for the new album to come out!!!!!

Go fuck yourself Scott, and thank you.
